Child Protection Statement
The ISSU has a responsibility and duty of care to protect any child (anyone under the age of 18 years) that may be at risk, who comes to the attention of the organisation. With this in mind, with an ethos of openness and honesty, the ISSU endeavours to protect anyone under the age of 18 years who is at risk and comes to our attention.
At the ISSU we believe that all young people have a right to be safe at all times and to have the opportunity to fully-participate in all aspects of the activities that the ISSU provides. The ISSU has developed an comprehensive protection policy in order to help all those involved with the ISSU to ensure that young people participating in activities of the ISSU or of ISSU sponsored activities have the opportunity to make the most of their time with the organisation, in a safe environment.
The ISSU has developed a set of procedures which apply to all staff and volunteers who have personal contact with young people. These procedures will help the ISSU to keep young people safe by publicising its protection policy, checking the identity of all those working young people and setting out actions to be taken in case concerns are raised. Ultimately, the ISSU believes that the child’s welfare is paramount.
In every aspect of our work it is expected that both employees and volunteers will treat every person with respect and positive regard. Respect for the individuality and uniqueness of every person who comes in contact with the organisation is paramount.
We aim to constantly listen and respect the feelings, opinions and ideas of children and young people. Recognition for the wealth of knowledge and experience children and young people possess is also vital. The ISSU staff and volunteers are obliged to complete ‘Garda Vetting’, and training is provided to ensure that those involved in the ISSU understand best practise in the area of safeguarding children. The ISSU in our nature, is a student driven organisation, however it is vitally important that we ensure the protection of those involved with the ISSU at all times.
